Binge eating disorder (BED) was originally included in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, 4th edition (DSM-IV) as a provisional eating disorder diagnosis within the category of Eating Disorder Not Otherwise Specified. It is now listed as a free-standing diagnosis among the proposed Draft Revisions to DSM Disorders and Criteria for DSM-5.
