    Seroquel

    Hello,

I was recently prescribed Seroquel as a supplement to Lamictal, my depression medication. Despite multiple increases in dosage, Lamictal alone is not relieving my depression. I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with Seroquel and if they might be able to tell me what I may expect. Will the zombie-sleepy feeling ever end? Will I continue to feel out of it and have trouble focusing? Will weight gain be a huge issue? I have never been on an anti-psychotic before, but it is my hope that this medicine will quiet my negative feelings and put me in a "better place" emotionally. I am tired of crying and remaining horribly sad/angry/frustrated/aggitated all of the time.

Thank-you for taking the time to read this.

    Re: Seroquel

Seroquel is the Elixer! Nothing has controlled my mood swings as well as seroquel! It helps me to sleep at night, keeps my anxiety in check, and helps me deal with pesky feelings of paranoia and delusional thinking. I have tried every drug known to man and this is the one that has given me peace and stability.

My only concern is the weight gain. I’ve gained a lot of weight. However, at this point in my life, I’d rather be fat and sane than thin and crazy. I don’t think I could hold a job without seroquel.

    Re: Seroquel

Back in 2005 i was given Seroquel to help me sleep through the night,zombie-sleepy was difficult to bypass overtime.I then quit takin medicince ,and in the past 5 years my downs have gotten the best out of me.I rather take the meication now.Im looking for a recovery plan as i am currently going through hard times. If the only prblem of takin seroquel is becoming fat, then the gym is a place to consider.

    Re: Seroquel

I'm on Seroquel right now and have been for almost a year, gradually increasing the dosage. I take it at around 6pm. The tiredness & drowsiness starts to settle in around 9pm, and by 12am its usually knocked me.right.out. But I don't feel 'zombie'ish during the day. I did/do when my dosage changes, but my body gets used to it. I'm jusy so thankful that its helped me sleep! I really like the zombie/drowsy feeling I get a few hours after I take it: it's sort of like being drunk, and everything just calms down.
In regards to it helping with negative thoughts, it has helped a lot. I guess it depends on how your body reacts to whatever dosage is right for you. But I've definitely had less negative thoughts since I've been on it.

The biggest thing I've noticed is that it absolutely takes a long time to figure out what dosages & combinations of meds works for you. Its been almost a year since I was put on the seroquel (in combination with Cymbalta and Xanax) and my shrink & I are still working it out. It just takes time.

    Xo

Edit: its also different if you're on extended release or short release. I take XR at night and short release as needed.
Edit #2: regarding the weight gain - if you were already eating healthily and exercising you should be fine. And if you notice any weight gain just hit the gym a bit more (which really helps with the zombie feeling too).
