    Angry Frustration

How the hell anxious do you have to be before the DR will give you something for it.. I switched my family Dr and went to a new one today, and she was worse, she wanted to take my med I take at night for sleep. I can't stand the anxiety attacks anymore. Why won't these Drs listen? What has to happen before someone listens. My old Dr gave me Xanax for one month. So I had a month of relief. Now it's back to square one. I understand why they are reluctant to prescribe the stuff, but it's made for the exact problem I'm having. If I had diabetes, would I not get what I would need?
And on top of this, living with chronic back pain is about to make me totally insane. Now that I've had a new MRI (which shows new damage) and a nerve conduction test, I will be able to get what needs to be done to "fix" it.

If you've read this far, thanks for listening to my rambling, I can't stand listening to myself anymore, It must be hard for the people around me, let alone people who don't know me....... :0
    Just a very bad day.

    Re: Frustration

I am right there with you. My doc does not want to give me anything stronger than .5mg of Ativan for my anxiety and he doles them out like 10 at a time and monitors how fast I am going through them. I don't know what it takes to get anxiety meds out of these people, but if you figure it out, let me know.

    Re: Frustration

I guess benzo meds once been ditched out too easily and with no control. After that, SSRIs were given the same, stupid treatment. Meds have a role if they are handled correctly. Benzo meds can save lives if used correctly. I had access to Xanax for over 5 years (and gosh was that a huge relief getting them, the total ugliness I had to endure FOR NOTHING before I got them, because docs here are very benzophobic), and I have yet to get addicted or develop tolerance. The simple trick, I monitored myself and concluded I'm not the type (this is your body, not your own fault) that requires more and more meds. If you are like that, benzos are not your type of med. Also I don't take Xanax every day. This is pretty crucial. I take them when I really need to. I don't get very many, so I have to spend them wisely.

Knowing there is addiction to this med, you can act accordingly and by not taking it every day, you can stay not addicted.

Some docs are just extremely opposed to benzos or anything in those regions. It's as bad I think as those docs that give them out like candy.

I asked my doc about Ativan but he says the dosage of Xanax I take when I take my smallest dosage is less than what Ativan comes in as a pill.

I really wish I could do something like religion to easy my mind! But sadly it's not especially easy to make it stick to me.

    Re: Frustration

I understand the problem with anxiety type meds being given out...most doctors are so afraid of the things now. But I am taking Klonopin, which I was told would only work for a short time and then I would need more and more to get the same result. No, that hasn't happened. It still helps...one more med that I did not realize helped with anxiety or panic at all until I was taken off of it was Paxil. I went into severe panic which affected me mentally and physically. So, I asked to be put back on 10 mg. of it for the anxiety prevention, and my doctor agreed. I am also going to change to a new psych doc through my insurance because he has worked with my private psych doc who worked with me in therapy. My insurance psych doc only prescribes meds..he doesn't do therapy...but this new doc will most likely not feel threatened by another psych doc and will be willing to consult with him when they need to. That is why I am changing psych docs with my insurance. The one I have now that I will have until the change is complete, is so threatened that I have another psych doc for therapy.....it would be fine with her if he was not a psychiatrist and just a psychologist, but she is really negative about me seeing my other psychiatrist. I won't deal with that.
