Anti-depressants, labido and appitite
Ok I'm now at the point of considering going back on medication as struggling with suicidal thoughts and not functioning well in day-to-day living i.e. not washing, not leaving the bed, not leaving the house for days at a time, for example.
I really don't want to go on anti-depressants though as they seriously screw with appitite and labido and make me feel terribly alien. The labido thing isn't so much about wanting to have loads of sex. It's just I find the sense of not having any kind of sexual feeling very odd and de-stablising mentally.
Struggling with compulsive eating means meds that provoke carb frenzies are completely no-go for me. My G.P doesn't appreciate these two things and that causes me to have no faith in her. I have tried loads of different G.Ps but can't seem to get anyone to hear me.
I'd really like to try something completely different - I thought antipsychotics might be an option. Any ideas or suggestions?
Thanks a lot

I hear you on the libido issue, I have it in spades right now. I'm talking to my Doc about switching to a different med even though the Celexa is helping my depression because I can't deal with the side effects. At some point the side effects are worse than the depression!

Uh... no. I don't think there's special pills that magically improve libido, unless you count the somewhat dubious use of testosterone for women... antidepressants mess with brain chemicals and unfortunately this means they mess with the chemicals that would normally create a sexual response. I might recommend switching from SSRIs to SNRIs, I have heard some of those brand do not have the effect on libido that SSRIs do, but that's just what I've heard. I will agree meditation can help with depression, but kegels aren't really going to help with chemical effects on sexual arousal from SSRIs specifically. OP, this side effects sucks I agree. I guess you just have to decide which is worse, on the pills or off- and remember that you can always use the pills to help you get better faster than without them, and then move on with life and come off them again.

Antidepressants can unfortunately cause anxiety and depression.
Time is a factor as well as the dose as well as the medicine.
Finding the right medicine can take a painfully long time.

"then move on with life and come off them again."
This can be very hard /not feasible, to acutely be on medicine.

I understand what your saying but in my case after a divorce from over 3 years ago and not wanting any relationship, let's just that my well ran dry. It doesn't bother me right now because a man and sex is the last thing that I'm concentrating on right now. Sorry, this is just me rammbling on.

Wellbutrin is an antidepressant noted for improving /increasing
sexual function, one of the reasons it often combined with SSRI's.

If you study deeply you would know that every medicine has its merits and demerits and anti depressant drugs have also wide range of side effects. It may cause your brains to dysfunction in the later years or your life. You should try to avoid antidepressant drugs by using your strong will. get yourself busy and work some physical job which requires tough activity on your body.

I think medicine and time both are factor in it. I think you need to meet doctor for it and also try to spent your most of the time with your friends. It can make you happy and depression free.
