Anyone not affected by sedatives?
I have had problems getting to sleep for years and have been treated by many different doctors in many ways. They have been treating my bi polar but they are trying to get my sleep under control. When they started treating me they used sleeping pills lunesta, ambien, trazodone, and restoril. More recently the doctors have been using anti depressants and mood stabilizers with a sedating effect. ( deoxpen, lithium and haldol ) I don't understand how these medicines aren't helping me sleep. Is there anyone else who has had these problems?

I cant remember the recommended dose for ambien so be careful your not going to over do it. I think ambien was one that didn't help me get to sleep but made me feel awful when I tried to get up.

I'm kind of seeing a distorted perceptoin of reality, but I'm not sure if I'd say I'm high. It is kind of fun to move around

Re: Anyone not affected by sedatives?
I am currently taking haldol and when I first started it I felt the same way. I was physically affected by the med but my mind was still wide awake. I would feel slowed down with my movements and a bit dizzy but still couldnt fall to sleep.

Re: Anyone not affected by sedatives?
I've never taken prescribed sedatives, but I bought all natural sleep-promotive sedatives to help me sleep and they don't do jack shit. in fact I tossed and turned all night the first two nights I took them. now I just don't see a difference one way or the other. it's fucking weird. doesn't affect me physically or mentally.

Re: Anyone not affected by sedatives?
Sedatives have the opposite effect on me. I can stay up for weeks at a time without any sleep I call it the "NyQuil Effect." The docs sometimes don't understand that medicine effects everyone differently. If you are given too much of something sometimes it has the opposite effect. Losing sleep is one of the most unhealthy and irritating experiences.

Re: Anyone not affected by sedatives?
I agree with Seal, I too was put on ambien 10 and it seemed to work for the first couple of weeks then came to a hault. So I up'd the dosage to 20mg but it made my sleep worse. Mentally it made me feel like I was running on a full tank of gas however I'm also on close to a dozen meds so I stopped the ambien and just started taking benadryl. I'm up to 200mg a night but it's the only thing to get me to sleep right now.

Re: Anyone not affected by sedatives?
It depends on the person, how you
are "wired". Some people need a very large dose
of a drug to get the effect.

Re: Anyone not affected by sedatives?
To state, everyone is effected
by sedatives, its the drug, the presence
of other foods/drugs in the system,
and the dose. Drug A no sedation,
Drug B sedation, trial and error is currently
the only real way to know which drug will work for a given person.
