Need feedback from someone's who's had a positive effect from SSRI's

I am taking paxil 20 mg (paroxetine) - (have taken it before with very beneficial results) for 29 days now and am still experiencing very uncomfortable side effects, especially nausea and general feeling of weakness in the morning. I also have very "down" moments. Every little task seems huge, not to mention socializing, which is my wost (when not depressed I love being with people).

I remember last time I went through the same thing.
It just seems to be getting worse.

Has anyone had a similar experience with medication from this group?

Just want to feel good already!

I'm so sorry that you are going through that tough transition that comes along with finding a med that works for you. Personally I had a good experience with Paxil years ago...but I can't say how long that took to kick in for me. The last SSRI that worked for me was Lexapro, but that was in combo with Welbutrin. There was quite some time period when that combo was really quite helpful...and actually I took it for granted. During that time though when Welbutrin was added I noticed side effects like dizziness/ brain zaps (not sure how to explain it but almost a little shock / jolt at times/ especially when turning my head. Those did not last beyond a month though. I think many that have tried meds as a part of dealing w / depression will tell you that there is not one magical med that works for everyone. It would be nice if it were that easy. One thing that I can say was quite helpful for me was logging any side effects that popped up so that not only I was aware of them, but I could share that info with my doc/therapist. I wish you well during this tough time.

Paxil was really horrible for me. Celexa made me manic. Zoloft sort of burned out my brain and basic functioning. Serzone didn't do much and was withdrawn because it causes liver damage, Prozac gave me akathisia and really extreme headaches. I'm now on Luvox. It works well. I reacted very differently to all of them. Some docs say if you try one you try them all. IT'S JUST SO NOT TRUE!

I'm doing well on prozac. Side effects were horrible - nausea, akathasia, headaches, heart rate going mental, palpatations, anxiousness, feeling knackerd and feeling generally physically lousy - for about 4 to 5 weeks then they lessened and have all but gone away.

I've up my dosage to 40mg from 20 about 10 days ago. I've noticed a little return of now and then fast heart rate and mood wise I'm a little flat but I know this is just to do with my body adjusting to the increase in dosage. I don't feel worried about it.

I have been on serxoat in the past and I have to say the side effects were just too intense for me. In the U.K serxoat is rarely prescribed anymore because of it's tendancy to trigger suicidal thinking/attempts.

I'd try it for another week but then go back to your G.P and review ok. Important question - do you feel any anti-depressant benefits at all? During the latter stages of my my really bad side effect period I was aware that the despite the awful physical affects the prozac was having a positive effect on my depression and that's probably why I stuck with it.

big hugs to you sigi ok and keep telling us how your doing, we care.
