A Happy New Year 2012 to all the readers of Brain and Development and to every colleague in the field of child neurology and developmental neuroscience. In 2011, we had a tragic earthquake of magnitude 9.0 followed by an unimaginable and enormous Tsunami in the north-eastern Japan. Moreover, the buildings of nuclear power plants in Fukushima were damaged and the fear of a radiation hazard became a realistic nightmare. In that situation, we had letters and e-mails from many colleagues and friends abroad to express their sympathy to the staff of the editorial office. With such a disaster, we have been worried about the fear and the difficulty in the life of children with and without handicaps.
