Spirituality, Creativity, Depression
I have just started this book called, "The Artist's Way." It is about reconnecting with your creativity and finding a spiritual connection with your creativity. It is fascinating. It is for any sort of Artist. As a writer I find it especially great. I've read the first chapter, in which she talks about things that get in your way and prevent you from writing. I think that I have this fear that if I wasn't depressed I wouldn't write poetry as well. Is that sad? I don't know.
Anyway, I wanted to write and share this book with anyone out there who wishes they could be more creative, or wants to get back into the swing of doing "art" and feels spiritually/emotionally blocked. Since I started it last week I have felt great. Can't really explain why or how.

Re: Spirituality, Creativity, Depression
As an artist (visual and musical), I battle depression. Sometimes i win and make things. I try to make art everyday and most days i do make "something".
There is an unfortunate style in the arts lately that seems to promote the idea that depression is "stylish". A guy i know is closing his poetry magazine down because he says that he is not depressed enough to be a poet anymore. What i think he means is that the fashionable style of poetry is depressive and he no longer fits the profile.
I say "The hell with fashion!". Say what you have to say honestly and passionately. If it's full of joy, that's fine to. He is putting some happier poems in the final issue.
For me, creativity is the antidote for depression. i create whenever i can manage to.

Re: Spirituality, Creativity, Depression
Depression is just a stepping stone to finding what makes you happy. I have been a writer since i was 16. Im 31 now. I used to write about all kinds of things, particulary personal development notions. You can turn everything into art or a word of inspiration. I used to have many a problem, I actually turned it all around a while back and now write for the joy of helping other people. I think for artists, being in mood swings and out of control etc teaches them about the different facets of creativity. It is easy to be inspired when emotions are high, regardless of whether they are low or high. Emotion and passion, what saing was saying, is actually what art is about. I knew a painter that could paint the most beautiful absract art, but the moment she didnt have someone to love, she couldnt paint. Which is sad in itself. Passion, creativity, emotion are always within our control. It is simply a matter of realising that we all have the power to take control and make our lives, art whatever it is we wish for, into whatever it is we desire.

The only one thing which is called depression can destroy your self man and the two qualities which are very necessary for success, creativity and hard work are also destroyed. So friend just over come on this problem .Trust me its like a bomb for your self .It does not matter either you are a genius or not but it matters that you must have a stable and sound self and lifer style.

Re: Spirituality, Creativity, Depression
Depression can destroy your self confidence, whereas creativity is the combination of hard work and new ideas. Spirituality can refer to an ultimate or an alleged immaterial reality. Above all the posts are really interesting. Thanks to share!
