Nar-Anon Family Groups is a twelve-step program for friends and family members of those affected by someone else's addiction, regardless of whether the addicted loved one is "clean" or not. The only requirement to be a member and attend Nar-Anon meetings is that there is a problem of drugs or addiction in a relative or friend. Though not affiliated with any other organization or outside entity, Nar-Anon is similar in nature to Al-Anon Family Groups, and organized around the same Twelve Steps, and Twelve Traditions.
Nar-Anon groups hold regular meetings throughout the United States, Canada and other countries. Meetings are typically held once each week. Although a separate entity from Narcotics Anonymous (a 12 Step Program for addicts seeking recovery), Nar-Anon's Traditions specifically state that it should "always cooperate with Narcotics Anonymous". There are often NarAnon meetings held at the same time and place (though different rooms) as Narcotics Anonymous meetings. Larger Nar-Anon gatherings, such as conventions, or speaker meetings, are also often scheduled to coincide with Narcotics Anonymous functions.
